True to style at In The Country, our carefully curated selection of indoor plants leans toward the unique and uncommon.
Unlike most garden centers that truck their house plants in from Florida, we grow the majority of our house plants right here. That means they are acclimated to Iowa conditions and don’t harbor the pests that trucked in plants often bring with them.
Heavy on Hoyas
Hoyas have become very popular “collector” plants, because there are soooo many different species and varieties.
These tropical, epiphytic vines like a fast draining soil mix that is allowed to dry moderately between waterings. Bright, indirect light is preferred, but many hoyas can be acclimated to fairly strong light which can bring out some beautiful coloring. Grow them in a hanging pot or climbing a trellis.

Terrarium Treasures
Terrariums are tiny enclosed gardens that are incredibly fascinating and small enough to fit anywhere. They are the perfect way to grow one of Josh’s recent interests – miniature tropical terrarium plants.
These plants require the high humidity and moisture of a terrarium, and will not survive without it. Miniature begonias, Solanum species from South America, and Jewel Orchids are a few of the tiny treasures that are available from time-to-time at In The Country. Many of these are propagated from Josh’s personal collection.
