Not all gardens have the space for a full sized conifer (or evergreen), but all gardens have space for at least a few dwarf conifers!
Dwarf conifers, with their wide range of colors, shapes, and textures, are long lived, low maintenance additions to any garden. The structure they lend to the garden brings four seasons of interest, which is especially welcome during winter in the midwest.
Our selection of conifers focuses on miniature and dwarf varieties, the smallest classes of conifers designated by the American Conifer Society. Miniature conifers grow one inch or less per year and dwarf conifers grow between one and six inches per year. These little evergreen trees stay little, they aren’t just cute, young plants that are going to grow into big trees!
Other Unique Trees, Too
In addition to dwarf conifers, In The Country offers a small selection of other hard-to-find ornamental trees that thrive in Iowa. We are especially drawn toward variegated and colorful foliage, interesting bark, weeping and unusual growth habits, and compact stature. From Ginkgos to Maples, Beeches to Willows, you never know what you might find!
