Paphs, or Lady Slipper Orchids, are native to India, China, Asia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Molocca Islands, and New Guinea. Most species are terrestrial. They are divided into two groups. Those with plain green leaves which come from the cool, moist mountains, and those with mottled leaves which come from the warm forest floor.
Paphs need bright, dappled light. Never direct sun. Leaves should be a medium green.
Green leaved paphs need day temperatures about 70* F. and 50*-55* F. at night.
Mottled leaved paphs need day temperatures of 70*-85* F. and 60*-65* F. at night.
All paphs need a constant supply of moisture. Keep plants moist at all times. Humidity should be about 50%.
Plants should be fertilized with 1/4 strength fertilizer with every watering.
Paph flowers are waxy with a large pouch. Green leaved types usually flower in the winter. Mottled leaved types usually flower in the summer. Large plants may flower more than once a year.
