1998 Plant List - Free

Owner: Gary Lindheimer, Member, AHS and Jack Hirsch

In the past, I have bought the following hostas from Naylor Creek Nursery:

I have already sent two orders for 1998.

I suspect the hostas I have received from Naylor Creek Nursery have all been tissue cultured plants, but they have been consistently large and vigorous with plenty of adult leaves. They are shipped bare root, but seem to survive the process particularly well and are in very good condition when received. Every Naylor Creek Nursery hosta I have purchased is thriving in the garden.

The 1998 Plant List has 22 pages plus a single-page insert with color illustrations of new introductions. There are 15 pages of alphabetical hosta listings. I counted 684 species and cultivars listed for sale. These include 3 new introductions from Barry Sligh of New Zealand - H. Kiwi Gold Rush', H. 'Kiwi Treasure Trove', and H. 'Kiwi Cream Edge'; 2 new introductions from Alex Malloy - H. 'Pilgrim' and H. 'Silent Witness'; and H. 'Island Charm' from George Rasmussen. In addition there are quite a few listings for cultivars not available from any source listed in the 1997 Hosta Finder: H. 'Aristocrat', H. 'Chances Are', H. 'Dana Nicolette, H. 'Julia, H. 'Limey Lisa, H. 'Margie Weissenberger, H. 'Monitor, H. 'National Arboretum, H. 'Pixie Power, H. 'Sea Hero, H. 'Sea Slate II, H. 'Spingarn's Japan, H. 'Sunlight, H. 'Verkade's #1, and H. 'Warwick Delight'. There are no illustrations in the plant list itself, but the individual species and cultivars are each briefly described. This is a major retail supplier of hostas.

Plants are priced very competitively. The most expensive hosta I found on the list was the new introduction H. 'Silent Witness' for $125. There are many good cultivars for $4, $5, and $6. Orders are processed quickly, acknowledged, and charged at the time the order is placed for credit card orders. Plants are shipped promptly by UPS on or about the date requested.

All of the plants I have received from Naylor Creek have been true to form so far as I can determine.

The catalog also lists a number of other shade tolerant plants with particularly good selections of cultivars of Astilbe, Epimedium, and Pulmonaria. Seven varieties of tree peonies are also available.
