In the past I have purchased the following hostas from Miller's Manor Gardens:
All of these are happily growing in my garden. This year I've ordered some hostas and some other unusual perennials.
The 1998 catalog includes 8 pages of alphabetical hosta listings containing 404 entries, an impressive number. There are one-line descriptions that do not include any information about who registered the hostas or when. Most of the species and cultivars offered are not particularly obscure nor just introduced. Some are relatively unusual and are offered by only a few growers according to the 1998 Hosta Finder. These include H. 'Blackfoot', H. 'Red Wing', H. 'Independence Day', H. 'Hoosier Homecoming', H. 'Marge', and H. 'Estelle Aden'.
Prices are appropriate for the container-grown, mature crowns shipped. The most expensive hosta in the 1998 catalog is H. 'Spilt Milk' at $80. Many worthy cultivars are $3, $4, and $5. There is a 10% discount on hosta orders of $50 or more placed before 1 April 1998. Credit cards are accepted and are charged at the time the order is placed.
Hostas are shipped bare root . The order form does not have a specific place to indicate desired shipment time, and last year my order arrived a bit earlier than I was really prepared to deal with itthe plants lived for a couple weeks in pots in the family room. So far as I can tell, all the hostas I've received from Miller's Manor Gardens have been true to name. They have all made the transition to the garden (or to the family room and then to the garden) easily.
The catalog also lists extensive offerings of iris, daylilies, and other perennials. Given the number of species and cultivars offered, this is a major supplier of hostas.
