Here it is the middle of November and what are we doing? Wading around in the ponds putting everything to bed for the winter. Thank goodness we’re having unusually warm weather for this time of year or it could have been a lot worse.
I’m sure we are probably the last to put their pond to sleep in this area. We’ve been giving our customers instructions on what to do for the last two months…I know there are some who had it all taken care of a month ago! We kind of got a little sidetracked with our open house. Same thing happens in the spring…everything comes at once.
All of the hardy plants were trimmed and placed at the proper depth for winter…most went to the bottom. I sure hope the poor fish find room down there, too!! The tropical water lilies are out and drying. Believe it or not, some of them were still blooming! Pretty amazing considering they are tropical plants and we’ve had many frosts. Once the soil dries out a little so it’s not so muddy, we’ll unpot them to collect any tubers they (hopefully) formed. This is how we’ll store them over winter.
We also potted up a few dormant hostas. We want to force them and use them for a presentation on hostas I will be giving in March. Watch for details in the next couple months.
That’s about all for this week. I think winter is finally setting in…cold and windy today.
